Эти три прилагательных сейчас обозначают различные понятия: Arab — это арабский народ, арабы, Arabian — Аравийский полуостров между Красным морем и Персидским заливом и Arabic — арабский язык, арабская литература или письменность народов, говорящих на арабским языке. Таким образом: Arab businessman/horse/ racehorse-owner/sheikh — арабский бизнесмен, арабская лошадь, арабский владелец скаковых лошадей, арабский шейх; Arab courage/entente/philosophy — арабская храбрость, арабское согласие, арабская философия; the Arabian desert/fauna (Arabian baboon/camel)/flora (Arabian gum/jasmine), gulf/nights — Аравийская пустыня, аравийская фауна (аравийский бабуин/верблюд) и аравийская флора (аравийская смола, аравийский жасмин), Аравийский залив, аравийские ночи; и, наконец, Arabic alphabet/literature/numerals/script — арабский алфавит, арабская литература, арабские цифры, арабская рукопись. Выражение street Arab (уличный арапчонок), впервые появившееся в 1859 г. и в течение 100 лет обычно употреблявшееся по отношению к бездомному бродяге (в особенности к ребёнку-бродяге), в настоящее время считается оскорбительным.
